چکیده

We present the first results from HST Archival Legacy project "SKYSURF." As described in Windhorst et al. 2022, SKYSURF utilizes large archive to study diffuse UV, optical, and near-IR backgrounds foregrounds detail. Here we utilize SKYSURF's sky-surface brightness measurements constrain level of Extragalactic Background Light (EBL). Our have been verified an accuracy better than 1%, which when combined with systematic errors associated HST, sky uncertainties $\sim$2-4% $\simeq$ 0.005 MJy/sr each image. put limits on amount EBL three filters (F125W, F140W, F160W) by comparing our preliminary $> 30,000$ images Zodiacal light models, carefully selecting darkest avoid contamination stray light. In addition, investigate impact that instrumental thermal emission has measurements, finding it a limited F125W F140W whereas exact state significant astrophysical F160W images. When compared Kelsall (1998) model, isotropic background $30$ nW m$^{-2}$ sr$^{-1}$ remains, using Wright model no discernible background. Based primarily foreground subtraction, 29 sr$^{-1}$, 40 for F125W, respectively. While this is generally isotropic, modeling at point does not distinguish between cosmological origin or Solar System (such as dim, diffuse, spherical cloud cometary dust).

The First Detections of the Extragalactic Background Light at 3000, 5500, and 8000å (ii): Measurement of Foreground Zodiacal Light

We present a measurement of the absolute surface brightness of the zodiacal light (3900–5100Å) toward a fixed extragalactic target at high ecliptic latitude based on moderate resolution (∼1.3Å per pixel) spectrophotometry obtained with the du Pont 2.5m telescope at Las Campanas Observatory in Chile. This measurement and contemporaneous Hubble Space Telescope data from WFPC2 and FOS comprise a c...

Zodiacal Light Surface Brightness Measurements by Atmosphere Explorer-C

Using the visible airglow photometer on the Atmosphere Explorer-C satellite, we have mapped the zodiacal light surface brightness at the wavelengths monitored by the instrument: 3371, 4278, 5200, 5577, 6300, and 7319 .~. The study constitutes a survey over this wavelength range, covering most of the celestial sphere, from altitudes above the atmospheric emissions, and free from atmospheric scat...

Extragalactic background light measurements and applications

This review covers the measurements related to the extragalactic background light intensity from γ-rays to radio in the electromagnetic spectrum over 20 decades in wavelength. The cosmic microwave background (CMB) remains the best measured spectrum with an accuracy better than 1%. The measurements related to the cosmic optical background (COB), centred at 1 μm, are impacted by the large zodiaca...

Constraints on Extragalactic Background Light from Cherenkov telescopes: status and perspectives for the next 5 years

Very high energy (VHE, E > 30 GeV) γ-rays are absorbed via interaction with lowenergy photons from the extragalactic background light (EBL) if the involved photon energies are above the threshold for electron-positron pair creation. The VHE γ-ray absorption, which is energy dependent and increases strongly with redshift, distorts the VHE energy spectra observed from distant objects. The observe...
